VAL THORENS, France -- Canadas Marielle Thompson can rest easy knowing that she has locked up a spot for Sochi. Teammates Kelsey Serwa, Dave Duncan and Brady Leman are virtual locks to join her. As for the rest of the Canadians on the deep national skicross team, they have a long, anxious weekend of waiting ahead of them. The Olympic qualification window for skicross closes Sunday, so Fridays race served as the last chance for Canadians to qualify for nomination. The 26-athlete freestyle team roster for the Winter Games will be announced Monday. Skicross is one of five disciplines that fall under the freestyle umbrella so inclusion could be tough. There are several World Cup events scheduled for this weekend so it remains unclear who will make the cut. "Im sure a lot of (the athletes) will have empty stomachs depending on where they sit on that bubble," Canada Ski Cross director Dave Ellis said on a conference call. "Depending whos in the rankings behind them and how they perform, thats going to make a difference for sure." Thompson, from Whistler, B.C., won gold Friday at the FIS Audi Val Thorens World Cup to extend her lead atop the womens overall standings. "I didnt really feel anyone too close to me today," she said. Duncan, from London, Ont., moved back on top of the mens standings with a bronze medal. Leman, from Calgary, took fourth place and Montreal resident Chris Del Bosco was fifth. "The competition from within the team is what drives the success, so its fun," said head coach Eric Archer. Del Bosco won gold in the first of back-to-back races a day earlier. The race was cut short due to high winds so the veteran skier was given top spot due to his strong performance in the qualifications and first heat. Del Bosco, who finished fourth at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, has struggled this season. He had not cracked the top 10 until this week and it remains to be seen whether he has done enough to get a spot on the Sochi nomination list. "I did pretty much everything I could this weekend to give myself a shot," Del Bosco said. "At the end of the day thats all I can really do." Danielle Sundquist of Calgary and Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver, B.C., are also on the bubble. Sundquist finished fifth on Friday and Simmerling was seventh. Serwa skipped Fridays race. The qualification process is very complicated. Athletes from slopestyle, aerials, moguls and halfpipe will also be included on the freestyle team and Canada is strong in all of those events. Of the 26 spots available in the five disciplines, there can be no more than 14 selections from either gender. The selection committee will look at results from previous years but performances this season have the biggest impact. The depth of the national skicross team and the Canadian freestyle team as a whole leaves athletes who are on the bubble in a tough spot. Some very talented competitors simply arent going to make the cut. http://www.officialraidersgear.com/Raiders-Shilique-Calhoun-Draft-Jersey/ . - Even with a new coach, the Denver Nuggets still love to push the basketball. His sprawling toe save off Mark Scheifele late in the second period kept the game within reach. As calm as you try to be, when you wait this long and you get out on the ice, Im not going to lie I didnt feel like myself in the first 10 minutes, said Zepp, who spent the previous seven seasons in Germany, and two years before that in Finland. And it was a little complicated too because (the Jets) were flying out there. I dont remember much from the first 10 minutes but I was able to get my feet under me and play more of my game.Jakub Voracek needed just 10 seconds to score the winner, his second goal of the night. Vincent Lecavalier added a pair of goals for the Flyers, who came back from a 3-1 deficit.Matt Halischuk, Mathieu Perreault and Dustin Byfuglien scored for the Jets.Voracek and linemate Claude Giroux forced a Byfuglien turnover behind the Winnipeg net, and Voracek slid the puck through Ondrej Pavelecs pads for the win.It was a good forecheck by (Giroux), Voracek said. He put pressure on (Byfuglien) right after the faceoff and as soon as I saw it bounce over his stick I knew I was going to have an opportunity to take it to the net.Philadelphia (13-14-6) followed up their 7-4 Saturday night win over Toronto to improve to 5-9-3 on the road.Voracek opened the scoring after just 46 seconds of play as he one-timed a pass from Giroux on a two-on-one rush for his 13th goal of the season. I appreciate this more thaan anybody knows.ddddddddddddThis is 26 years trying to get here. And to be able to get here and play and the game wasnt perfect, obviously, but to get the win at the end like that is incredible. The Jets (17-10-7) turned a 3-1 third-period lead into an extra-time loss for the second time in five games. The Jets played for a second game without their top four defencemen, all of whom are out until at least January. Im not going to read a trend into it. Were going to talk about what happened.Halischuk said the Jets werent as aggressive in the third period as they had been in building their lead.I think we came off our gap a little bit and gave them too much time and space, Halischuk said. When that happens you spend a little more time in your zone. The Jets saw a two-game winning streak come to an end. They visit Chicago on Tuesday night before the Christmas break. If you kick the puck into the neutral zone on Chicago all night theyre going to get too many chances, said Maurice.
